Calling all curious creatives: Curtin University Library is excited to launch the 2026 Library Creative in Residence program – an open invitation to curious, imaginative minds to explore, create, and connect through art.

Centred on the theme “Creative Curiosity,” this year’s program encourages students to dive into the TL Robertson Library with fresh eyes and an open mind. Whether you’re an artist, writer, performer, designer, filmmaker, or creative technologist, we’re inviting you to discover the hidden stories, overlooked spaces, and rich collections that make our Library the beating heart of Curtin’s campus.

The Creative in Residence program offers a unique opportunity for one Curtin student to undertake a community-focused creative project over a semester. Supported by a mentor and working from the Library’s Makerspace, the selected creative will develop and deliver a project that sparks curiosity, invites participation and enhances the Library experience for all.

You don’t need to be a traditional artist to apply. What we’re looking for is someone who’s excited by the challenge of using creativity to connect people – across disciplines, backgrounds, and experiences. Whether you’re passionate about sustainability, storytelling, sound, sculpture, digital design or zine-making, we want to see how you can bring the Library to life in new and unexpected ways.

Why “Creative Curiosity”?

At its core, curiosity is what drives learning, exploration and play – the same qualities that define a great library. Through this residency, we want to spotlight the Library as more than a place to study or borrow books. It’s a space to wonder, experiment and engage with others. It’s a place where creative ideas take root and grow.

As part of the residency, you’ll be encouraged to:

  • Explore the Library’s physical and digital collections
  • Engage students and staff through participatory workshops or activations
  • Reimagine overlooked corners or familiar spaces through your creative lens
  • Develop a final artwork, experience, or installation that reflects your journey

What You’ll Receive

  • A stipend to support your time and creative work
  • A materials budget to bring your project to life
  • Access to the Library Makerspace and workspace during the residency
  • Support from a creative mentor and the Library team
  • Opportunities to showcase your work and connect with the campus community

Ready to Apply?

Applications are now open to all currently enrolled Curtin students from any discipline. If you’ve got a creative spark and a curious mind, we want to hear from you!
